How to cancel GitHub (Copilot / Pro / Actions) (and get a refund)
GitHub Copilot, Pro/Team, and metered usage are all managed under Settings > Billing and licensing — changes only take effect at the end of the billing cycle.

- Sign in and go to your profile picture > Settings > Billing and licensing
- To cancel Copilot: Licensing > GitHub Copilot > Manage subscription > Cancel subscription
- To drop a paid account plan: Additional billing details > under Current plan, Edit > Downgrade to Free
- Marketplace apps are cancelled separately under Additional billing details > GitHub Marketplace
Can you get a refund?
Cancellations and downgrades take effect at the end of the current cycle rather than being refunded. Metered usage (Actions minutes, storage) is billed for what you've already used. Contact GitHub Support for a billing dispute.
Easy-to-miss gotchas
- Metered usage is why the amount can change month to month even on the same plan
- 'MSFT*GITHUB' on a statement is still GitHub — Microsoft owns it
