How to cancel Google Play (apps / subscriptions) (and get a refund)

A 'GOOGLE *' subscription is cancelled in Google Play's Subscriptions list — not by uninstalling the app.

Where the cancel button actually is

  1. Go to play.google.com/store/account/subscriptions
  2. Click the subscription you want to stop, then click 'Cancel subscription'
  3. On Android: Play Store > profile picture > Payments & subscriptions > Subscriptions
  4. You keep access until the end of the paid period

⚠️ The app-store trap

This IS the app-store layer for Android: services subscribed through the Play Store (YouTube Premium, Google One, and many apps) are cancelled here, not on the service's own site. Uninstalling the app does not cancel it.

Can you get a refund?

Google Play refunds depend on timing and the item: apps/games are often self-refundable for a short window after purchase; subscriptions and older purchases usually need a request. See the official refund page.

Easy-to-miss gotchas

  • Uninstalling an app never cancels its subscription
  • YouTube Premium and Google One can also be managed inside each of those services
